SAVVA National Edwardian & Veteran Tour

Class A
Ancestor - Built prior to December 31, 1904

Class B
Veteran - Built between January 1905 & December 31, 1918

Generally the above classes are rallied together under the banner of Veteran

These classes include any self-propelled vehicle (motor cycle, commercial, motor car), eligible to travel on public roads. Propulsion could include gasoline, electrical, steam etc. Engines include single + twin cylinders.

The event is open to members of any club affiliated to SAVVA driving motor vehicles/motorcycles manufactured before 31 December 1918.

The event will include a timed section and an open section covering about 350 km in total, over 3 days. The maximum speed is limited to 50km/h and will cater for 2 speed groups: 25 km/h and 50 km/h. The event is limited to a maximum of 25 cars.

The event will be based at the Kennaway Hotel on the East London Beachfront and vehicles will return to the venue at the end of the daily events.

During 1968 a Veteran Run was organized from Cape Town to Durban. After this run the event was hosted through SAVVA.

The previous event took place in Fouriesburg in 2011 and attracted the following makes of cars: Buick, Dodge, Ford Model “T”, Maxwell, Renault, Rover. Competitors attended from all the provinces.

Driving and maintaining vehicles from this class could be very challenging due to the scarcity of spares. Some of the vehicles are very basic in design and roadside repairs and adjustments are normally easy to perform. The camaraderie and team spirit on these events are amazing. Unfortunately these vehicles are not used too often due to the age and expense of maintenance and a diminishing interest from the younger generations.

Accommodation for the event has been reserved through Kat Leisure at the Kennaway Hotel in East London. See
